Hawaii Vacation Secrets

A trip to paradise is on the top of everyone’s list, and a trip to the state to Hawaii will put you in another state of mind.  A common travel myth is that a Hawaiian vacation is too expensive for individuals who do not have private jets or trust funds.  This rumor could not be farther from the truth, as a vacation to the 50th state is open and available for travelers working with all budgets.  Look to these Hawaiian vacation secrets to make your budget stretch as far as possible.

1.) Choose a package.

In most cases, a package deal is a good bit less expensive that searching for airfare and lodging separately.  Most internet travel websites offer vacation packages, and travel agents specialize in booking one package for the entire vacation.  Most packages couple airfare and hotel, but some include extras like car rentals and special activities.

2.) Check out a cruise.

If you plan on seeing several islands, look to a cruise to save some cash.  Most often, cruises are easy on the budget since they include your lodging, transportation, and food costs for the entire trip.  Many companies run specials that will factor in airfare to the price and may throw in a couple excursions.

3.) Head out on your own.

There are countless travel companies that will be more than happy to schedule your excursions and events, but for a hefty price.  You will be able to do and see more if you head out on your own instead of relying upon travel companies and organizations to provide transportation and admission fees.  Consider renting a car to see the sights or use the public transportation system on the islands to get around.  Hawaii boasts the best public transportation system in the country, and their buses are extremely economical and comfortable for travel.

4.) Hit the beach.

The state of Hawaii boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the entire world, so be sure to enjoy the sun and sand.  Instead of spending a great deal of money on water parks or other amusements, consider renting or purchasing snorkel gear for a few dollars and explore what lies beneath the clear blue sea.  Spending a day on the beach is absolutely free of charge, and will probably provide your best memories of the entire trip.

5.) Eat with the locals.

Instead of forking over your hard earned cash for overpriced dishes at a fancy resort restaurant, head out and eat where the locals eat.  Arguably the best meals in the state can be purchased from lunch trucks that circle busy areas around noon and serve up traditional Hawaiian plate lunches, which include a meat dish and “one scoop” rice and macaroni salad.  For a few bucks, you can enjoy a hearty, filling, and authentic meal and save your cash.

Your Hawaiian adventure will certainly not be one easily forgotten, so pack your bags and head to the islands for a slower way of life.  The weather in the islands is beautiful year round, so when the cold wind starts to blow at home, trade in your parkas and scarves for sandals and swimsuits.
