U.S. Golf Vacations
Take Swing at Popular U.S. Golf Vacations
Whether you are trying to turn professional or are just learning the
sport, a golf vacation is just the ticket to enjoy a favored hobby or be
challenged by a difficult course. There are numerous spots in the United
States associated with golf vacations, so hit the greens and tee up some
fun.
One of the most well known golfing vacation spots is Myrtle Beach, South
Carolina. The consistently warm temperatures and numerous quality golf
courses guarantee golfers of all abilities will enjoy the game when
weather at home is cold or rainy. Another draw for the Myrtle Beach
crowd is the sun, sand, and surf of the beach. Hit the greens in the
morning and then enjoy water sports during the afternoon or hit the
shops.
Another popular golfing destination in the United States is much more
surprising. Although it may be strange to think of lush greens in the
desert, golfers flock to the arid environment of the Scottsdale-Phoenix
area for year round golfing delight. In fact, the state of Arizona has
more golf courses per capita than anywhere else west of the historic
Mississippi River. The greens are certainly not shabby either, as most
are designed by top golfers and course designers, including the Golden
Bear himself, Arnold Palmer, and the famous Robert Trent Jones. In
addition to enjoying fantastic golf courses, the Greater Phoenix area
has fabulous resorts offering luxurious amenities, including first class
spas and exquisite restaurants. Perhaps the best aspect of heading to
Phoenix for a golfing vacation is due to the number of public courses
and private courses that offer limited play to the public, so that you
can experience a number of quality courses without having to join.
Boasting the best weather in the entire country, it is no shock that San
Diego is a veritable golfer’s paradise. Play a round year round without
needing an umbrella or sweater! Over 50 public, plus an additional 50
semi-private and private golf courses stretch between San Diego and its
surrounding areas, including Carlsbad, Rancho Bernardo, and Encino. Most
golfers head to San Diego for its wealth of activities and attraction in
between tee times. Kids and adults alike love the world famous San Diego
Zoo, the historic Gaslamp Quarter, and of course the gorgeous beaches.
The state of Hawaii is quickly becoming associated with the epitome of
golf vacations, as the country’s 50th state allows visiting golfers to
hop between islands for a truly well rounded golf experience. Although
any island offers fantastic greens, the lush island of Maui is
especially popular and boasts the first golf course in Hawaii’s history.
Who could embark on a golfing vacation without a stop at the world
famous Pebble Beach. Nestled on the gorgeous 17-mile drive, Pebble Beach
shares space with other fantastic courses, including Spyglass Hill,
Pacific Grove, and Carmel Valley. In addition to a golfer’s dream, the
Monterey Peninsula is home to the quaint seaside town of Carmel and
Steinbeck’s immortal Monterey.
When traveling on a golfing destination, one tip is to leave your clubs
at home. All courses will allow you to rent clubs, as will most golf
resorts. Instead of hassling with lugging your clubs thousands of miles
away and spending extra cash on purchasing traveling bags for your set,
rent instead and save you time and hassle.
